Women in Science // Rachel Ignotofky

This non-fiction book features 50 of science's most fearless pioneers who changed the world. Did I mention they are all women? (WOOT WOOT!) These short stories tell about the inspiring discoveries and how these strong women influenced the world as we know it. Well this gem is a fictional tale about a curious little girl with science on the brain! She just can't stop asking how, when, and why. Our brave Ada has to know the answers + she finds community and family that love her for it. A great book for your STEAM(y) children - and did I mention that the illustrations are beautiful?

100 Steps for Science + How it Happened // Lisa Jane Gillespie

For your older children, this book has a lot of fun and hours of study in it's pages. It is oversized, in true Wide Eyed Editions style, and so the pages are big, full, and total delightful. I walked away from a week-long meandering journey of this book impressed by Lisa Jane Gillespie's hard + good work. Of course, the illustrations compliment each fact perfectly, but the real shining light is the way Ms. Gillespie narrowed the scope of the scientific endeavor into step by step components. She break down much of the world's big mysteries and discoveries - Life, Universe, Medicine, etc. into manageable ingredients and facts that when ordered and joined together make a brilliant product. Her presentation and clever organization makes these complicated things approachable, easy, and endlessly interesting. Another homerun from Wide Eyed Editions (my favorite nonfiction press) - Keep up the work and give this lady-author some more work!!
